Indie pop favourites Royal Canoe are releasing a new live EP, Glacial, and corresponding documentary! The lead single, an icy rendition of previous hit 'Living a Lie', premiered on CBC's q yesterday; 'Living a Lie' is now available for streaming in anticipation of the digital release of the EP on May 29th.
Glacial documents Royal Canoe's innovative and widely attended outdoor show at The Forks in Winnipeg this past January. In collaboration with ice master Luca Roncoroni, the band created instruments and triggers carved from blocks of ice pulled directly from Fort Whyte to completely reimagine and reconstruct versions of their previously released material. There were ice drums and percussion, an ice sample kit/light-machine, some pitched 'ice-struments' and an ice horn, in addition to the usual keyboards and synthetic textures the band is well known for.
Royal Canoe will be hosting a virtual screening party of their documentary on May 28th; tune in to see this extraordinary performance for yourself, and learn more about the band's experience creating a performance truly unlike any other.
Glacial is an exclusive digital release that is now available for pre-order.
