Dan Deacon: America

6.

I 1st saw Dan Deacon live at Mercury Lounge many years ago. The club was packed. He mixed beats and sounds with electronic consoles. I wasn’t impressed but half the audience were ravers and they were. I don’t know why, but Dan Deacon is a big question mark to me. His music isn’t any worse than other electronic music, but I can’t seem to get into it. I don’t like his chanty vocal parts, and his beats aren’t funky. They’re anti-funky in my opinion. Whenever I hear Deacon, I wanna throw on The Chemical Brothers. Maybe you have to be on X and dancing to this music, I don’t know, but he has fans and listeners. This album, America is supposed to be a new step for him, but it sounds exactly how I expected. What’s left to mystery, is whether it takes talent to make this music, or is it more mathematical, like the math behind science and engineering. Then again, math is an art to many. I guess I just don’t get it. I’m not very good at math either.
