The Smashing Pumpkins: Oceania

Oh Billy... always looking for attention. With his latest drama with Soundgarden, ignorance of facts aside, Billy Corgan states his new album is modern, unlike the rest of the 90's comeback acts attempting to revitalize their career. But Corgan apparently has not popped his self-absorbed bubble musically enough for his vision of where he fits in the world to make any sense. Oceania doesn't sound any different or more modern than his early records, in fact, it's dead boring. What's missing, are the great chorus melodies, Jimmy Chamberlain's powerhouse drum grooves, and most importantly, any connection to anything current. In his head, he believes the grungey guitar thing is still the center of anyone's attention. I think it's time to hang up the now-shamed name of the Smashing Pumpkins, and delve into another solo record no one will give a crap about. I mean, no one cares about what he's doing anyway. Let the band-name age with grace Billy.
