Autre Ne Veut: Anxiety

7.

French for “I think of none other,” the enigmatic New York artist known as Autre Ne Veut makes music that falls somewhere between 80's R&B’s hooks and melodies and the blurry sounds of Ariel Pink.

Synth-pop has come a long way since the 1980's, blending with all other influences since. This music is similar to acts like Francis and the Lights or d'Eon. It's decent background music for the early morning cubicle worker, but I wouldn't listen to this when I'm out or at a party. It's subdued, mellow and subtle mood music as opposed to top 40 groups of this genre. Perhaps a more excited reaction would come from an attempt for a top 40 hit single, or maybe the music is leading up to that. We shall see where this goes.
