Rush: Clockwork Angels

7.5

This is a heavy return for prog-pioneers Rush. The album is full of classic era Rush riffs and expected Neil Peart drum fills. Geddy Lee's voice seems to deepen with age, which I believe is a good thing. The band is in top form overall as for musicianship, but their songwriting is lacking the excitement they used to conjure up in the 70's and 80's. Few bands of this caliber can keep coming back at the level of enthusiasm as their former records, but Rush sure as hell keeps trying. The previously released single- "Headlong Flight" stands out as the best track. The songs are long, hard hitting, and guitar heavy. If you're a die-hard Rush fanatic, this album will meet all expectations. If you're wanting for Rush to write another Permanent Waves, it's not lookin like it's in the cards, considering how long they take in between new records.

  1. This album didn't make a very big impact with the fans. Snakes and Arrows sold better.

    - as simple as that? I think if someone is lacking the excitement for music than shouldn't necessarily review it.

    1. Yeah, really. A big problem with today's generation. If anyone with an attention span still exists, listen to this album. Once you realize how incredible it is, you'll be excited about music again.
