Irish Rockers Colm O’Mahony & The Hot Touches Go From The Lap of the Gods to the Back of the Pub with Hard Driving Debut Single “Damage”

Emerging Irish Rockers Colm O’Mahony & The Hot Touches present their debut single “Damage”, available Fri. April 19th, 2024 on Spotify and all the major music services, with a companion video on YouTube. The full album is out soon.

Sometime in-between bouts of getting roughed-up by his older brothers for sneaking into their rooms and playing their records, singer-songwriter Colm O'Mahony saw Queen's historic performance at Live Aid in July of 1985. At the ripe old age of 4. You could say his fate was sealed on the spot.

"I can't remember the 1986 World Cup," says Mahony, "but I can remember Live Aid. I remember it was a hot day, and the way my brothers were just talking about it and talking about it. And, of course, I remember Freddie Mercury."

Helplessly drawn to the rock and pop hits that dominated the radio at the time, O'Mahony continued to defy his older brothers and cop listens from their record collections, slowly developing his own tastes in the process.

"I had to travel quite far to buy actual records and tapes," he recalls, "so the bulk of my tastes were shaped by the radio — songs by people like Tom Petty and Bob Seger, who were so effortless that they made songwriting seem like the most natural thing. And with Petty, for example, you would really go somewhere while listening to one of his songs. It also had a really big impact when I discovered Irish artists like Luke Kelly & The Dubliners, Paddy Reilly, Liam Clancy, and Bagatelle."

But it wasn't until O'Mahony happened to go to a Bruce Springsteen concert that the initial seed planted by music blossomed into a mission.

"I'm not a spiritual person, but seeing Bruce Springsteen was the closest thing I've ever had to a spiritual experience. I was converted immediately, and it completely changed the direction of my life. Within like 6 months, I started playing guitar and singing in bars. I'd been in a pretty bad place in my life at the time. My dad passed away when I was 19, and I'd been doing drugs before then anyway. But that moment just gave me a bit of light and, just as important, a direction."

Ever since then, O'Mahony has been trying to capture that majestic sense of being enraptured by a song that somehow captures your life in a particularly well-honed couplet. And with his project Colm O'Mahony & The Hot Touches, he distills all the pomp and grandeur of stadium-bound hit parade rock down to compact expressions that fit into a beer pint.

O'Mahony's native town of Killarney, Ireland is the type of place that lends itself well to the proverbial pub crawl, with a melange of different types of music pouring out into the street all at once. "You'll get Irish music coming from one bar," O'Mahony says, "me in another, a loud rock band in another, and country music in another. It's a small town, but music is everywhere."

O'Mahony relishes his role as one of the troubadours whose vocation it is to provide the songs that soundtrack our lives. "There was something really magical about all of us being able to participate in this sense of a shared moment," Mahony offers. "I know we don't all share the songs on the radio anymore, but I try to write music that hearkens back to that kind of universality."

Indeed, the songs on Colm O'Mahony & The Hot Touches' self-titled debut run the gamut from hard-driving rockers, to contemplative singer-songwriter chestnuts to lovelorn ballads. But, much as he might've been struck by charismatic icons like Mercury and Springsteen filling stadiums with their presence all the way to the cheap seats, O'Mahony's own music conveys a humility that feels more like having a good friend in your ear.

If musicians once aimed for the lap of the gods, O'Mahony aims for the comfort of the pub. As a result, his songs end up sounding big, but with a dose of modesty and relatability that ultimately makes them more powerful.

Band Founder and vocal virtuoso Terence Keith explains, “In the cover art for the song, the finger in the TV that is pointing at the screaming face symbolizes all these authoritarian voices we deal with on a daily basis that are dictating their poisonous views upon us all. Continually dragging society down with unnecessary turmoil, unreasonable demands and hard core restrictions that weigh heavy on every person's mind and spirit”.

In support of the record, Dead Superstar are gearing up for a slew of 2024 tour dates beginning in March - major announcement coming soon.

The long standing New York based Dead Superstar is a heavy yet melodic rock machine and they’re here on business. Fill Up My Tank: New Single from Mark Newman

Singer/songwriter Mark Newman has released his first single for the new year, entitled “Fill Up My Tank”, (written by Chris Armata) to Spotify and all the major music services.

The song is about a long road trip taken by bike (motorcycle). Mark was in the studio working on Chris Armata’s original version of the song, when Chris said, “You should cover this song. It’s more in your wheelhouse.” Acoustic guitar, Dobro and finger snaps by Chris Armata and Upright Bass played by Mike Hall.

Drivin’ down the long road

Destination up ahead

Look so far, the mountain’s high

Gonna smack me in the head

Been a trip up and down

Don’t know how it’s gonna end

My gauge is low, my tires worn

Will I make it to the end

I gotta fill up my tank

It’s almost empty

There’s no other way

I’m gonna make it up that hill

Engine’s warm, the tach is high

Thought it would be an easy trip

Look up there, see the sky

Got a clearing for a bit

There’s no choice, can’t break down

Gotta make it to the end

Come this far, I can’t quit

No excuses to defend

In the rear view mirror I can see

The road disappearing from sight

I’m so tired, I’ll keep on goin’

Even if I drive through the night.

Almost there, can smell it now

Been a long, long road

Can’t believe I made it this far

Man it’s been a long road

A multi stringsman, Mark has mastered electric/acoustic/lap steel guitar as well as the mandolin and dobro. Past music releases include the singles “At The Border” which was originally written with the struggles people were experiencing fleeing the war in Ukraine in mind, but is also inspired by the millions of people all around the world trying to escape oppression and hunger on an ongoing basis, “Tulsa”, a song and video created in remembrance of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, and “From Me To You”, a cover of the Janis Ian song for her Better Times Project of 2020. From New York to Nashville, Reviver Records Recording Artist Brooke Moriber Making Her Mark in Country Music

Born and bred NYC native and current Nashville resident Brooke Moriber is returning to her roots this winter for two special shows. First, the burgeoning young Country star will be playing on Thursday December 7th for the “Nash Meets Patch Honky-Tonk Showcase” presented by Planet Of Sound Promotions at 89 North in Patchogue, NY on Long Island.

Then after the new year, see Brooke perform as part of the new bi-monthly “Nashville in New York” Songwriters in the Round series, which will also feature Jeff Cohen, Kara DioGuardi and members of the 615 Collective including Sarah Darling, at the legendary The Bitter End on Bleeker Street in NYC on Saturday January 13th at 6:30pm.

Brooke Moriber is a singer/songwriter and native New Yorker who has paved an unconventional path for herself in Country music. After getting her start at a young age professionally performing on Broadway, Brooke turned to songwriting as a teenager to cope with losing her eyesight to a rare eye disease. When the disease went into remission after a difficult four years, Brooke began traveling to Nashville to tell her own stories. Praised for her “clarion voice” (Associated Press), she went on to release her first single “Cry Like A Girl” independently in 2019, and later signed with Nashville’s Reviver Records.

Moriber’s music has been in rotation on many Music Choice channels and has been featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday Country and Country Christmas playlists (“Little Bit of You”, “Down to Nothing”, “All I Want for Christmas is You”), CMT online, Music Choice Network and the Music Row Country Breakout radio chart. Brooke most recently released a self-titled album featuring “Holy Ground”, a soulful duet with The Voice’s Ian Flanigan.

The New York City girl performed her hometown anthem “This Town Made Us” on Today in Nashville and shared the stage with other young breakthrough artists including Dylan Scott and Caroline Jones. When she is not on the road, Moriber has been hard at work in Nashville with some of the industry’s top writers and producers, including Todd Lombardo and Craig Alvin (Kacey Musgraves), Karen Kosowski (Mickey Guyton) and David Pittenger (GAYLE, Parmalee). Hailed as a “stellar songwriter and a powerhouse vocalist” (Country Swag) and “a force to be reckoned with in Country music” (Celeb Secrets Country), Brooke is poised to take her place among the biggest voices in Country music.
