Psych pop band KEYS unveil new single "This Side Of Luv" Out via Libertino

Cardiff Psych Pop band KEYS unveil brand new single recorded entirely at home using cassette four track recorders, re-connecting with bedroom recording, and the magic it can produce.

“The hiss is another instrument” and it’s an instrument integral to the new recordings, sounds and songs by KEYS. Over the next few weeks we will be unveiling the latest collection of songs by the band, as Matthew Evans (vocals, guitar, songwriter) explains: “We recorded these tracks on Cassette four track machines during lockdown. Let’s not pretend we had access to an expensive studio, we didn’t. It was a time to connect with bedroom songwriting again. These are not band arrangements worked out in a rehearsal room – these were written and recorded simultaneously. Not demos but songs that took shape during the recording process.”

The hiss of the cassette turning is the sound of the endless possibilities and magic of the pop song spilling out in vivid colours at the exact moment inspiration took hold. No second guessing or over thinking, only the joy of creating.

A perfect example of this is the first single ‘This Side of Luv’. “This was our attempt at joyous early 70’s Midlands pop. 3-day weeks, winters of discontent, a Tory government… yet out of that bleakness came some heroic, ecstatic British pop music.

Music has the power to lift the spirit, if we can do that for 3 and a half minutes then we’ll feel our efforts were not in vain.” Matthew summarizes this collection of songs, also written in trying times, as: “something to help us get through this lockdown. Hopefully you can use it too.”

These People New EP "Animal Behavior" is out October 18th

Songwriter, and producer Tj Penzone started THESE PEOPLE as a solo project after the break up of his former band Men, Women, & Children (Warner / Reprise records).  Not wanting to be tied down to any specific line up, the live band has a constant rotation of musicians but the songs are primarily written, recorded, & produced by TJ, with additional instrumentation, and co-production by his brother Rick Penzone (Color Film, MWC).

Although the music is influenced by many genres, there is a common theme of primal rhythms, angular guitars, synthesized overtones, and ethereal vocals that tie all the different types of songs together.

The first two singles released were A / B Vision, and Brain Clouds. They both feature Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Rival Schools) on back up vocals.

The band will be supporting the latest release through out the year with live shows around the east coast.

"Surreal and kaleidoscopic, depicts a fantastic mélange of visuals reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey combined with images from a ’50s sci-fi movie, intermingled with blurred images of band members playing their instrument" - 'Of the video' writer Randall Radic

The group features five members; Chris Ruben (Vocals, Guitar), Brendan Allan (Bass), Russ Benjamin (Drums), Eugene Iovine(Keyboards, Synths), & Frank Iovine (Synths, Organs). Influenced by classic acts including The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, and Nirvana, together their sound is a blend of modern funk and indie-rock reminiscent of Jamiroquai and Mac DeMarco. The band has become a staple in the Long Island music scene, frequenting venues including Portside Bar & Grill, 89 North, The Velvet Lounge, and BrickHouse Brewery. By the time he was sixteen, he made the switch to guitar and started writing songs of his own. In late 2014, the first version of The Chris Ruben Band was formed. Over time, Chris added and replaced players until the perfect lineup was created. “We are more than a band, we are family.”

In a recent review from Mobangeles, the band is called “tasty good” with a sound described as “pure grit” for “any fans wanting to pad their musical library with raw and multi-layered musical arrangements”, and as they continue to perform and write new music, fans are sure to keep getting just that.

NYC-Based Band All Types of Kinds To Perform LIVE at Adventureland In Farmingdale Wednesday, August 1st

In a city often oversaturated with musicians of every genre constantly performing and creating, it takes a special group of artists to truly stand out amongst the crowd that produce a truly unique sound, and New York City’s All Types of Kinds truly live up to the namesake. With an upcoming show slated for Wednesday, August 1st at one of Long Island’s oldest amusement parks - Adventureland (2245 Broad Hollow Road (RT.110) Farmingdale, NY, 11735) park-goers will have the chance to experience the band LIVE for the very first time! But for those who still can’t get enough of the band - catch them July 29th at The Knitting Factory in Brooklyn AND at the Long Beach International Film Festival’s Concert on the Beach on Friday, August 3rd at 4PM!

All Types of Kinds (or ATOK) plays a wide variety of music ranging from rock to pop, folk, punk, funk, hip-hop, blues, jazz, and country - even sometimes all at once. The members come from diverse backgrounds that make for an amalgamation of musical textures and vibes. Their EP, "Love Songs (Or Songs For Your Ex)" debuted on Valentine's Day 2018 and they are currently gearing for dates all over the country.

The band consist of Ray Rubio (Guitar), Billy Conahan (Guitar), Berk 0 (Percussion), and Rocco Stroker (Guitar) - all of whom have unique musical backgrounds. Ray, 20, a multi genre artist and singer/songwriter, hails from Harlem NY and has also been on stage from young age, mainly theater productions. Ray attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 2014, and since then has been performing his music in the New York Metro Area and Richmond, Virginia. Billy, 25, is a queens native whose been on the stage since his early teens as a stand-up comedian, singer/songwriter folk artist playing his own folk tunes as well as cover tunes. Berk O, singer and percussionist, is from Brooklyn and also contributes to the band's songwriting process, while Rocco is the newest member of the band - playing bass, guitar and as an incredible vocalist. He hails from New Fairfield, Connecticut.

With the goal of becoming a full-time, self-sufficient, self-produced band, able to tour and create their own audio and video products on a regular basis, they plan to soon follow up their debut with a sophomore effort in late 2018. Unlike other bands who strive for major-label greatness, ATOK shys away from fitting into an industry mold, and often scoff at the idea of being referred to as a ‘boy band’.

Believers in finding a way to share their music while remaining firmly in the driver’s seat, they continue to write, practice, and enjoy playing their music for any crowd that will have them. Making friends from all over the world by busking on the NYC streets has even allowed them to meet and collaborate with like-minded musicians.

Now, as they get ready for THREE upcoming performances - Sunday, July 29th at The Knitting Factory, Wednesday, August 1st at Adventureland, and at the Long Beach International Film Festival’s Concert on the Beach on Friday, August 3rd - there’s plenty of opportunities to catch these recent “Your Big Break” contest winners who’ve been praised for their “polished precision, sweet harmony, musicianship, artistry, versatility and originality in their smart lyrics”.
