The "Empirical Truth" and Blues of Mark Newman

Mark Newman is a modern day bluesman. Contemporary blues is a path for the troubadour, the one who sings you songs about your everyday life. The barstool philosopher in song form...

On his newest release "Empirical Truth", Newman presents his most rockin' songs with a hell of a tremendous backing band. Reminiscent of the great Duane Allman and Lowell George, this is some of the best slide guitar playing anyone's ever heard! A twelve song powerhouse album filled with prime songwriting and a couple of kick-ass covers too. (Little Feat “Roll Um Easy” and John Oates "Mississippi Mile”)

The album rolls through a pack of road songs, the kind of music you hear in the background of a bar in a Quentin Tarantino movie. It's a collection of swampy blues mixed with some killer acoustic tracks. Newman's vocals are as raw and vibey as his guitar playing. "Empirical Truth" shows a lot of variety, like a jukebox shuffling between every style of the blues, and acoustic songs that stick in your head for days.

"Sharin' The Blues" is a throwback to old fashioned bar room blues. A song for every nine to fiver, getting by check to check. There's nothing like the healing medicine of an authentic blues number like this one. It's gritty and bass rumbling, like most of The Stones' "Exile on Main Street". The band sounds like they're in a smoke filled studio, very analogue sounding, smooth production. Newman's vision of the blues is a bit upgraded though, like a player who's studied all the classics from Clapton to Stevie Ray Vaughan, taking the genre to the next level. This album and new direction is the coolest thing happening in blues rock today. Catch Mark Newman live and see for yourself!

A New York native, Mark Newman’s musical prowess has taken him around the world several times over, playing with an eclectic mix of noted musical talents from Sting to Elvis Costello, and Travis Tritt as well as his own solo work. A multi stringsman, Mark has mastered electric/acoustic/lap steel guitar as well as the mandolin and dobro, and with a voice reminiscent of many rock and blues men before him- it has the familiarity of an old friend yet the power and soul of many of today’s rock, soul, folk and R&B icons. For over five years, Newman and fellow songwriter Naomi Margolin have run the “Music From the Hive”  Singer/Songwriter Series, and for the past three years- “The Original Music Series” for bands, in an attempt to keep original music alive and thriving.

These People are back! LISTEN TO "PAST TENSE" NOW

Today we have been treated to new music from Long Beach, New York indie band, These People.

This is 100% THESE PEOPLE at their best. The verses and choruses are unpredictably unique in rhythm and feel. The song goes in puzzling directions from 80's new wave verses to trippy progressive parts. It's a refreshing new step into the catalogue of the band's material.

'Past Tense' is dreamy and intimate, a pumping rock song with dissonant guitar riffs and haunting melodies. It feels like glooming post-punk, similar to Gang of Four and Wire. This is a new sound for them, a departure from the last single 'A / B Vision', which was more like grandiose Syd Barrett on psychedelic tranquilizers.

The production is flawless and smooth, mixed and produced by T J Penzone, Co-produced by his brother Rick Penzone, the result being a completely transcendent sound with a sonic variety of musical flavor and tone. The band explains:

"Past Tense has been around for a while in many forms. It started with a drum machine loop and busy guitar part, then evolved into something very different. Right before I had to turn my final mix in, my brother had the idea to totally change the bridge. He took out some of the music and added acoustic. At first the thought weirded me out cause we were running out of time, but it quickly became one of my favorite parts. Overall I’m really happy how this one turned out. I wouldn’t change a thing... again"

Witch's Wall shifts tones on self-titled new album!

Whether dark and brittle in “Mooncold,” musty and melancholic in “Sensation,” glowing and understatedly cathartic in “Feeling of Relief” or surprisingly sharp and evocative in ways lyrics never could be in “Out of Reach,” the string play that listeners can expect to encounter in Witch’s Wall’s new self-titled LP is nothing less than surreally spellbinding and at the foundation of every brilliant moment the album has to offer. Witch’s Wall hold nothing back from us on the instrumental nor lyrical fronts in this debut release, but in terms of sheer sonic depth, I think the fretwork that they submit in these eight exquisitely string-powered compositions stands out as some of the most profoundly intriguing that I’ve had the chance to review in the year 2020.

The title cut, “Heaven’s Break” and “Lady Love” are quite aesthetically contrasting on the surface, but amidst the recently-trending “back to basics” movement in alternative rock, the experimental design of this trio of tracks definitely feels like a breath of fresh air in the middle of a smog cloud. There’s a certain amount of minimalism in the overall approach that Witch’s Wall took to this LP’s framework, but in the grander scheme of things, I would be more inclined to align their sound with the surrealism scene (ala Timber, Chords of Eve, Gallery 47) than I would the stripped-down style of fourth wave indie rock that was gaining traction on the mainstream side of the dial towards the end of the 2010’s.

There’s a subtle muscularity to the bassline in “Feeling of Relief,” “Heaven’s Break” and the lush “Field Walk” that definitely emphasizes the rich tonality of the guitar parts in each of these songs, and though I’m sure it wasn’t the only thing they were considering when creating this record, I think it’s pretty obvious – even to the most novice of amateur critics out there – just how important intricacies like this were to Witch’s Wall when they were producing this album. This entire tracklist is comprised of seriously multilayered stuff, but even at its most decadent in stylization, there’s scarcely a moment in Witch’s Wall that feels even the least bit self-indulgent from a compositional perspective (which is hard to do when you’re experimenting on the level these guys are here).

I was not aware of Witch’s Wall prior to hearing this album for the first time just recently, but after getting immersed in their rookie release, I’m definitely going to follow their output from here on out. There are a lot of ways that this album could be interpreted, but above all else, I think it exhibits a multidimensionality on the part of this band that could lead to some really big breakthroughs for their work both in and outside of the studio. I highly recommend indie rock aficionados everywhere give Witch’s Wall a spin before the spring season is over, as it’s definitely one of the most intriguingly captivating LPs of its kind that I’ve heard out of an underground act in the month of April thus far.

The Peter Ulrich Collaboration Release Brilliant New Record “Final Reflections”

One of the coolest releases of the year is the new Peter Ulrich Collaboration- "Final Reflections". With a sea-swaying rhythmic vibe and darkened melodic tone, this new collection of songs are most impressive in a variety of ways. The instrumentation is unique, featuring everything from xylophones to strings, songs about pirates and sleepwalking witches. There are notable influences of Nick Cave and Polly Jean Harvey. Ulrich seeks a path to beauty through the darker channels of lyrics and love. Mythical inflections and folklore are conjured up from song to song in the same way a film score is conceived. The compositions are hallucinatory and vivid, like music drunk on moonshine from a classical century.

'Lessons of Love' opens with a delicious lead vocal as sweet as any R.E.M. song. Much like the unplugged era of R.E.M., the instrumentation is very 1960's, something like the classics of The Byrds and The Zombies. The album swiftly moves to a totally different vibe in 'Severely Blessed' which is like the great poets of rock and roll- Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave. It's a character study of a man back from the dead, hovering over polyrhythmic drum patterns. An interesting turn of spirit for Ulrich, an accomplished percussionist himself, formerly of the group- Dead Can Dance. 'Hawk Dreams' is another stand out track, a strong lead vocal, dreamy and eloquent music slithering above slide guitar and Twin Peaks atmospheric ambience.

In the midst of the album, one gets the feeling of a loner, a world traveler singing autobiographical songs about life and loss. There is a beautiful sadness in the lyrics like Tom Waits crooning under the moonlight sky. 'Nightwalker and Love Witch' is filled with an assortment of percussive shakers, marching snare drums and exquisite string arrangements. This is one of my favorite songs off the LP. With repeated listens, one continuously discovers new sounds and colors from this mammoth palette of instruments used for this record.

For the casual listener, blog critic or skilled musician, this album is a remarkable artistic achievement, far and beyond any previous release of the year. I can only wonder what new ground, new sonic territory Peter Ulrich will explore in the future. Brilliant to say the least, my ears are glued to this project with excitement I haven't felt in a long time.

The Peter Ulrich Collaboration is a collaboration helmed by Peter Ulrich, former percussionist for the iconic Dead Can Dance, the brilliantly innovative band that music historian Ian McFarlane described as world music that "constructed soundscapes of mesmerizing grandeur and solemn beauty... with African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chants, Middle-Eastern mantras and art-rock". Ulrich met Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard, the founders and cornerstones of Dead Can Dance, in London in 1982 and joined the band on drums and percussion. After leaving DCD and after releasing a string of critically acclaimed releases as a solo artist, Peter's next big step was The Peter Ulrich Collaboration.

The Collaboration is the brainchild of Ulrich and Trebor “Big T” Lloyd of City Canyons Productions as producer and a principal collaborator. The Collaboration mixes folk rock, world rock, art rock and psychedelic music with a world view that encompasses alternative history, fictional universes, Steampunk, and Goth, and recalls the exquisitely crafted soundscapes of Dead Can Dance. The group features songwriting by Ulrich, Lloyd, and New York songwriters Anne Husick, Sara Wendt and Kathy Sheppard among others with vocals by David Steele, Wendt, Ulrich, Jen Elliott, Shane Chapman, Stephanie Linn, Timothy Dark and other bright American and English talents. The vocalists are backed by a crackerjack band playing rock, post-rock, world and folk influenced music.

PREMIERE: Shock Radar shares new science-fiction inspired single from "OBSERVATIONS" album

"But You Will" is the beasty new single from New York City indie band Shock Radar. They have already shared one darkly chilling and ominous track, today we are debuting their crushingly loud single, taken from their forthcoming album, they call “the soundtrack to an imaginary science fiction film." The gently twinkling "More or less the same" feels more ethereal and tender than the group's heavy new song, but no less eerie or spellbinding. It was inspired by their love of vintage Twilight Zone episodes and Philip K. Dick novels. The band explains:

"We gave 'But You Will' a conceptual form as we’ve been intrigued by sci-fi horror films. They have been the perfect place for examining the creative process and its inherent powers of transcendence and self-destruction. We produced it like a film score to a fictional screenplay about people addicted to adrenaline highs through joy or pain. The theme follows a characters escape from the boredom of everyday life through video footage collected by an
 omniscient narrator."

Subtronics Hits Cyclops Recordings With ‘Scream Saver’ EP

Set to drop through Cyclops Recordings is the bass-bowing, four-track Scream Saver EP from Subtronics, the Philadelphia-based dubstep craftsman who has been killing it across the scene. This release continues to further showcase his unique mechanical sound design which has seen support from a plethora of electronic music artists. After all, it’s hard not to love his work!

Subtronics lets us know what we’re in for with titles like “Scream Saver,” “Lullaby,” “Discotek” and ‘Blow Stuff Up.” Heavy bass vibes drenched in “wook” sweat elevate each and every cut on the EP as Subtronics takes us on a journey through Dragonball-tinged soundscapes, wonky dips and trips, and a shivering low-end determined to crush anything in its path. The band says:

“There are several different approaches I have taken with this EP. It is a more noticeable range in sound design and mix down style. When I play live I am paying so much attention to the crowd, analyzing their reactions, that it can lead to overthinking. But ultimately, this has led me to look for a cleaner and more simplified, yet hopefully still unique and powerful sound.”

Scream Saver is the perfect addition to the bass music star’s head-banging discography. Stream the entire EP, out now on Subtronics’ very own Cyclops Recordings.

Konradsen - The Year is Over

Norwegian duo Konradsen share the tender lead single from their new EP Rodeo No. 5, out May 1st on Cascine.

Konradsen were an obvious Band To Watch choice. After one listen to debut album Saints And Sebastian Stories last year, it was clear the Norwegian duo is exceptionally good at what they do: seasoning their pretty coffeeshop indie with notes of post-rock and ghostly R&B, drawing listeners into something powerfully intimate. It’s just insanely beautiful music, sophisticated and tender. I love it.

Blessedly, the band is back this spring with a new EP called Rodeo No. 5. They explained the project in a statement: “While last year’s album was crafted meticulously, this EP is focused on fleeting, immediate moments — trying to capture the raw fragments that drift by in everyday life. It’s an ode to the small choices we make everyday.” Lead single “The Year Is Over” welcomes us back into the warm embrace of Jenny Marie Sabel’s vocals, which bob gracefully across the shapeshifting soundscape she constructed with Eirik Vildgren. “This song in particular is about leaving home,” Konradsen write, “about that small gap in your life when everything is new and you feel invincible.”

Rodeo No. 5 is out 5/1 on Cascine. Pre-order it here.

These People New EP "Animal Behavior" is out October 18th

Songwriter, and producer Tj Penzone started THESE PEOPLE as a solo project after the break up of his former band Men, Women, & Children (Warner / Reprise records).  Not wanting to be tied down to any specific line up, the live band has a constant rotation of musicians but the songs are primarily written, recorded, & produced by TJ, with additional instrumentation, and co-production by his brother Rick Penzone (Color Film, MWC).

Although the music is influenced by many genres, there is a common theme of primal rhythms, angular guitars, synthesized overtones, and ethereal vocals that tie all the different types of songs together.

The first two singles released were A / B Vision, and Brain Clouds. They both feature Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits, Quicksand, Rival Schools) on back up vocals.

The band will be supporting the latest release through out the year with live shows around the east coast.

"Surreal and kaleidoscopic, depicts a fantastic mélange of visuals reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey combined with images from a ’50s sci-fi movie, intermingled with blurred images of band members playing their instrument" - 'Of the video' writer Randall Radic

"Animal Behavior" is out October 18th

The Peter Ulrich Collaboration is a collaboration helmed by Peter Ulrich, former percussionist for the iconic Dead Can Dance, the brilliantly innovative band that music historian Ian McFarlane described as world music that "constructed soundscapes of mesmerizing grandeur and solemn beauty... with African polyrhythms, Gaelic folk, Gregorian chants, Middle-Eastern mantras and art-rock". The vocalists are backed by a crackerjack band playing rock, post-rock, world and folk influenced music. After the release of two albums, thrilled New York Collaboration fans were were treated to a live performance by the band at Manhattan's famous Webster Hall in 2015. Reviews for the first two albums were little short of spectacular:

“A rich and song-filled showcase”—RollingStone. com

“Grand mix of folk and world music”—Modern Drummer

“Riveting and intriguing”—Popdose

“A collaboration to be cherished”—The Independent

“Colorful and enjoyable record”—All Music Guide

Now following up their well received second effort Tempus Fugitives, about which Entertainment UK proclaimed "Sensuous wafting flights of ethereal fancy and finely-honed but never overstated lyrics are [Ulrich's] forte , and after the first album in the trilogy The Painted Caravan made waves with its release as “another fine record that has been described as The Great Missing West Coast Album”, The Peter Ulrich Collaboration is delighted to be able to bring this story to a close, releasing Final Reflections as a worthy and compelling companion piece.

While Final Reflections is chock full of notable songs, perhaps the most striking single, sung by the richly talented English vocalist David Steele, is Artificial Man; the Collaboration’s chilling look at a dystopian society in which creatures that are part man and part machine are on the verge of rebellion against their human overlords.

With The Painted Caravan Trilogy now complete, Peter Ulrich brings his colorful Caravan home full speed ahead. All aboard for the final exhilarating trip!

Sammi Rae Murciano & Los Vegas Release Second Single “Baby Baila”

After the success of their debut song “Escapate”, the emerging reggaeton superstars Sammi Rae & Los Vegas are at it again; this time with a dance track that would make even the shyest wallflower move and shake to the beat - entitled “Baby Baila”, available right now on all the major services.

Sammi Rae has been getting heavy praise from audiences nationwide for her strong and soulful voice. Concurrently, Los Vegas has been turning heads with his enigmatic persona on stage and the magnetic vibe to his flow. Together they form a dynamic duo to be reckoned with.

Their second single "Baby Baila" urges the listener to get up and dance - which is exactly what this bouncy, sexy track does; it's impossible not to at least tap along to the beat as the sultry vocals of Sammi Rae seduce you into a world of endless dance floor possibilities.

Their original collaboration ESCAPATE brought to life the sentimental romance often featured in Reggaetón hits with an energetically pumping backbeat and laid-back flow that made it a club hit. Trading lyrics like “If I leave with you, I want to be there with you through the night // I want to feel your arms around me, hold me tight // Your body next to mine, you make me feel so high” with Los Vegas, and the refrain “Never mind what anybody says, I just want to dance the night away, I just want to know if we can escape”,

On working with Los Vegas, Sammi says “It has been amazing to work together. To collaborate with someone who has the same passion and dedication for music as I do. We are very excited for what’s to come and have a lot of new music coming soon.”

Many performances are planned for this Fall, check social media for full details!

Rest in Power Mick Marsh

This dude lived rock n roll. Positive vibes, all the time. I was fortunate enough to know him and his influence, musically and a 'one of a kind' personality changed me.  Changed us.  He was one of us, the lower east side crew.  The vampires of ludlow.  A brother, a kind soul, a vinyl encyclopedia.  Rest in Power Mick, you are missed with pure love forever.

Singer/Songwriter Thomas Priest Drops New EP “Wake Up Call” with Album Release Party at Revolution in Amityville

This Friday July 12th, up and coming young Singer/Songwriter Thomas Priest is releasing “Wake Up Call”; his second EP recorded in Nashville and first with Rian Dawson of All Time Low behind the board. Thomas Priest is a fast rising music star from East Northport, Long Island. On his 13th birthday, Thomas began jamming on the electric guitar and realized that he had a real passion for music, immersing himself in the art and quickly learning to play the acoustic and bass guitars as well. He began songwriting and playing live a few years later; his first performance being at his High School’s talent show when he was just 15. Over time, Thomas learned he also had a knack for singing and within a year of that first show the now competent and confident Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist began writing and recording his own songs in a studio. After completing two incredible tracks which immediately became the talk of his hometown, Thomas set his sights on making his dream to become a professional nationally touring musician come true.

Earlier this year, Thomas had the pleasure of recording his second EP in Nashville, TN with Rian Dawson of All Time Low as Producer. The fruits of their labor can be heard on this brand new EP entitled "Wake Up Call", which comes out on July 12th everywhere. Thomas Priest isn't looking back, he’s charging forward. No prayers needed; he’s got the drive, determination and most of all the exceptional talent required to truly succeed. Listen online and decide for yourself. Al Di Meola & Shock Radar at The Space at Westbury, NY February 20

Al Di Meola’s ongoing fascination with complex rhythmic syncopation combined with provocative lyrical melodies and sophisticated harmony has been at the heart of his music throughout a celebrated career that has spanned four decades and earned him critical accolades, three gold albums and more than six million in record sales worldwide. A bona fide guitar hero, perennial poll-winner, and prolific composer, he has amassed over 20 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others with the likes of the fusion supergroup Return to Forever (with Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke and Lenny White), the celebrated acoustic Guitar Trio featuring fellow virtuosos John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia, and the Rite of Strings trio with bassist Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. And while his dazzling technique on both acoustic and electric guitars has afforded him regal status among the hordes of fretboard fanatics who regularly flock to his concerts, the depth of Di Meola’s writing along with the soulfulness and the inherent lyricism of his guitaristic expression have won him legions of fans worldwide beyond the guitar aficionado set.

A pioneer of blending world music and jazz, going back to early Latin-tinged fusion outings like 1976’s Land of the Midnight Sun, 1977’s Elegant Gypsy and 1978’s Casino, the guitar great continues to explore the rich influence of flamenco, tango, Middle Eastern, Brazilian and African music with his World Sinfonia, an ambitious pan-global group that he formed in 1991. Their exhilarating world music fusion has been documented on such releases as 2000’s The Grande Passion (featuring the Toronto Symphony Orchestra), 2007’s Live in London, 2011’s Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody and the stunning 2012 DVD, Morocco Fantasia (recorded at the Mawazine Festival in Rabat, Morocco and featuring special guests Said Chraibi on oud, Abdellah Meri on violin and Tari Ben Ali on percussion).

Growing up in Bergenfield, NJ with the music of Elvis Presley, The Ventures and The Beatles, Di Meola naturally gravitated to guitar as a youngster and by his early teens was already an accomplished player. Attaining such impressive skills at such a young age didn’t come easy for Al, but rather was the result of focused dedication and intensive periods of woodshedding between his junior and senior years in high school. “I used to practice the guitar eight to ten hours a day,” he told Down Beat. “And I was trying to find myself, or find the kind of music that suited where I was going with the guitar.”

His earliest role models in jazz included guitarists Tal Farlow and Kenny Burrell. But when he discovered Larry Coryell, whom Al would later dub “The Godfather of Fusion,” he was taken with the guitarist’s unprecedented blending of jazz, blues and rock into one seamless vocabulary on the instrument. “I used to ride the bus from New Jersey to see him at little clubs in Greenwich Village,” he recalls. “Wherever he was playing, I’d be there.” In 1972, Al enrolled at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and by the second semester there began playing in a fusion quartet led by keyboardist Barry Miles. When a gig tape of that band was later passed on to Chick Corea by a friend of Al’s in 1974, the 19-year-old guitarist was tapped to join Corea’s fusion supergroup Return to Forever as a replacement for guitarist Bill Connors.

After three landmark recordings with Return to Forever -- 1974’s Where Have I Known You Before, 1975’s Grammy Award winning No Mystery and 1976’s Romantic Warrior -- the group disbanded and Al subsequently started up his career as a solo artist. His 1976 debut as a leader, Land of the Midnight Sun, was a blazing showcase of his signature chops and Latin-tinged compositions that featured a stellar cast including drummers Steve Gadd and Lenny White, bassist Anthony Jackson and Jaco Pastorius, keyboardists Jan Hammer, Barry Miles and Chick Corea and percussionist Mingo Lewis. Over the course of six more albums with Columbia Records – Elegant Gypsy, Casino, Splendido Hotel, Electric Rendezvous, Tour De Force and Scenario – Al established himself as an influential force in contemporary music.

1980 marked the triumph of the acoustic guitar trio with Paco De Lucia and John McLaughlin. Their debut recording on Columbia Records, Friday Night in San Francisco, became a landmark recording that surpassed the four million mark in sales. The following year, 1981, Di Meola was inducted into Guitar Player’s Gallery of Greats after five consecutive wins as Best Jazz Guitarist in the magazine’s Readers Poll and winning best album and acoustic guitarist for a total of a record eleven wins. The three virtuosos in the trio toured together from 1980 through 1983, releasing the studio album Passion, Grace & Fire in 1982. In 1995, they reunited for a third recording, Guitar Trio, follow by another triumphant world tour.

In early 1996, Di Meola formed a new trio with the violinist Jean-Luc Ponty and RTF bandmate Stanley Clarke called The Rite of Strings. Their self-titled debut was released in 1995. Di Meola subsequently recorded with the likes of opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti, pop stars Paul Simon, classical guitarist Manuel Barrueco, and Italian pop star Pino Daniele. Over the course of his career, he has also worked and recorded with Phil Collins, Carlos Santana, Steve Winwood, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Milton Naciemento, Egberto Gismonti, Stevie Wonder, Les Paul, Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, Frank Zappa and Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba.
Di Meola’s 2013 release All Your Life was an acoustic tour de force that had him revisiting the music of a seminal influence – The Beatles. “I really credit the Beatles for the reason why I play guitar,” he says. “That was a major catalyst for me to want to learn music, so their impact was pretty strong.” A virtual one-man show of virtuosity, it features the guitar great interpreting 14 familiar Beatles tunes in the stripped-down setting of strictly acoustic guitar.

While currently juggling acoustic tours in Europe and electric tours in the United States, Di Meola arrives at the perfect marriage of the two aesthetics on his latest album, 2015’s Elysium, which finds the guitar great blending the lush tones of his nylon string Conde Hermanos acoustic prototype model and a ’71 Les Paul electric (his Return to Forever and Elegant Gypsy axe) in a collection of songs that are at once invigorating and alluring. “It represents a new composition phase for me, whereby the writing became, in a sense, my therapy during a challenging personal transition in my life," he said.
Di Meola is currently on tour in Europe and North America. Last summer, he was honored as the 22nd recipient of the Montreal Jazz Festival’s Miles Davis Award, created in 1994 to honor a great international jazz musician for the entire body of his or her work and for that musician’s influence in regenerating the jazz idiom.

During a 40-plus year career marked by hugely influential recordings and worldwide tours, Di Meola has regenerated the jazz idiom three times over while dedicating himself to his art. And at age 62, this guitar hero seems inspired to begin a new chapter in his career with the release of Elysium.

Brooke Moriber To Perform LIVE at TWO 2019 NY Fashion Week Events February 10th & 16th

With excitement already brewing for Fashion Week 2019 and designers get ready to unveil their latest collections, acclaimed Singer/Songwriter Brooke Moriber is gearing up to do some unveiling of her own. With her upcoming Cry Like A Girl album set to drop later this year, she’ll showcase some of the new music -- which she recently completed recording in Nashville, Tennessee, with legendary producer Fred Mollin (Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Shawn Colvin) at the helm -- during the Mark De Alwis Salon "Meals on Heels" Hair & Fashion Show Sunday, February 10th AND the SMGlobal Catwalk at Manhattan’s Watson Hotel (440 W. 5th Street, New York, NY 10019) on Saturday, February 16th at 6PM!

Cry Like A Girl is not only produced by a music industry legend but was also mixed by 5 time Grammy Winner Chris Lord-Alge (Carrie Underwood, Of Mice And Men, Bruce Springsteen). With Parade Magazine hosting the exclusive premiere of the first single and title track, they called it a “high-powered Americana-infused track with an empowering message" and noting that "Moriber makes a compelling case for sharing raw emotion with strong vocals and a spot-on delivery”. Popdust were also swift to jump on board, with the outlet proclaiming Brooke a “powerhouse”.

Cry Like A Girl is a deeply meaningful statement for Moriber who explains, “I named the album after that particular song because it has such a clear message that embodies the collection as a whole. It’s a statement about self-discovery and the strength that comes with embracing your emotions and allowing yourself to heal and grow. Human beings are resilient and I believe music can be the best reminder of that. I hope that the journey for the listeners can be as empowering and healing as it was for me to write it.”

As excitement for the global fashion industries latest trends combines with anticipation for Moriber’s latest music, the two worlds will collide at the Mark De Alwis Salon "Meals on Heels" Hair & Fashion Show on Sunday, February 10th and the SMGlobal Catwalk Fashion Week 2019 event Saturday, February 16th at the Watson Hotel!

Brooke has been lauded for her “clarion voice” by the Associated Press and songs that are “destined for high rotation”. A native New Yorker, Brooke began her singing career at the age of 8 by snagging a starring role on Broadway as Young Cosette in Les Miserables. No less than The New York Times has praised her acting ability as Brooke went on to star in six other legit shows as well as several roles on TV and in film. Brooke’s remarkable ability to juggle her career as both a recording artist and an actor led to her sharing the stage and screen with such performers as The Gin Blossoms, Cyndi Lauper and Alan Cumming as well as singing the National Anthem for the New York Knicks.

Pop Conspiracy Productions Reunion To Bring This Island Earth (25th Anniversary Show), Iridesense, and Tom Ashton of Early Edison Together Again at Revolution Bar & Music Hall, Amityville Saturday, January 26th

From a NY Times feature in the year 2000 that described the--at the time--REVOLUTIONARY idea of banding some of Long Island’s top music acts together to help promote the local scene, Pop Conspiracy Productions has since created a benchmark that has continued to influence bands bringing their resources together to promote each other's efforts as a collective unit. Now, as almost two decades have passed, P.C.P. will reunite once again with the bands that started it all - This Island Earth (performing their 25th Anniversary show!), Tom Ashton of Early Edison, and Iridesense at Revolution Bar & Music Hall in Amityville on Saturday, January 26th at 7:30PM.

As described by the NY times “There is strength in unity, and through P.C.P., the bands pool their resources through joint advertising and shared mailing lists.” which in the days before online mediums like Facebook, Soundcloud, Reverbnation, and Bandcamp took a great deal of initiative. Now the collective that kept the scene alive through creativity and sheer determination is getting ready to come together once again to light up yet another Long Island stage. Find out more about some of the groups that stood the test of time below!

The growth of This Island Earth, both musically and professionally, has been a logical escalation. Formed from the ashes of former cover bands and mullet-headed metal outfits, the group joined forces through a well-placed ad in the Village Voice, taking their moniker from a popular sci-fi 50's film of the same name. The band's eponymous debut was released on Neuro-Feed Records label and was sold and distributed primarily through consignment and live performances. Although it was only promoted to 12 east coast regions, the CD managed to gain 15 Top 40 college radio positions on over 180 stations, selling out it's initial pressing. Their follow up EP release, "Home Sweet Home," brought even further attention to the band, once again selling out its first pressing. The CD achieved over 50 Top 40 chart positions on over 350 stations nationwide and yielded a Top 20 ADD spot in its first week of release. The single, "Edge of Tomorrow," appeared on CMJ Certain Damage Sampler Vol. 103, as well as in the independent film, "Putnam," and also made many Top 10 radio lists for Top Songs of the Year 2000 (WCWP, WUSB). The band has also received extensive press coverage in Newsday, Billboard, and The Voice, and has opened for veteran acts 10,000 Maniacs and The English Beat.

Early Edison is a popcore band from Long Island, NY. Tom Ashton and Rob Coffin formed the high-energy pop outfit in the late '90s with drummer Chris Santiago and bassist Tom Wendling. Having plowed through pockets of the Midwest and East and West Coasts, the band made a name for themselves thanks to their lush harmonies and catchy pop tunes. Their single "Demographically Pleasing" from Devotion & Deceit was chosen as Pop Song of the Year by Newsday in 1997. Three years later they teamed up with Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu, They Might Be Giants, Bob Mould) to release their self-titled sophomore effort.

Iridesense (1993 - present, which includes Rick Eberle on Vocals/Guitar, Tara Eberle-Drouin on Vocals/Bass, Rich Drouin on Drums, Rob Viccari on Guitar) has toured the US opening for major acts such as Gin Blossoms, Spin Doctors and Sugar Ray and placed songs on the Nickelodeon Network shows Drake & Josh, Zoey 101 and iCarly. The band has several independent label releases - Cool Dream Tomorrow (1997), Iridesense (2001), A Trip Called Life (2007), Secret Constellation (2011) and Thought Parade (2015).

As they get ready to bring the same energy and inventiveness to the stage at Revolution Bar & Music Hall on Saturday, January 26th as they did in the early days of their inception, Pop Conspiracy Productions will surely put on a great show!
